Is breathwork safe?

Slow-breathing protocols are generally safe for most adults. Intensive breathwork practices have real contraindications and shouldn't be approached without practitioner guidance. Specific contraindications include cardiovascular conditions, pregnancy, epilepsy, glaucoma, recent surgery, and certain psychiatric conditions.

Can I learn breathwork from an app?

For introduction and basic practice, yes — apps like Breathwrk, Othership, Calm, and Insight Timer can establish habit and basic technique. For deeper practice or intensive modalities, an in-person practitioner relationship typically becomes important.

Will my career coach tell me which job to take?

No — and that is by design. A good coach asks sharper questions than they answer, so that the decision is genuinely yours. A coach who keeps telling you what to do has quietly slipped into consulting.

Is career coaching covered by health insurance?

Most UK private health insurance does not cover career coaching, as it is classed as professional development rather than medical treatment. Some workplace wellbeing or outplacement programmes include coaching.

Can career coaching help if I've just been made redundant?

Yes, and it is one of the most common reasons people come. The early work is often about steadying yourself enough to think clearly before any strategy makes sense. If the redundancy has tipped into something heavier, we'd ask you to see your GP first.

What's the difference between a career coach and a recruiter?

A recruiter is paid by employers to fill roles, so their incentive is placing you, not necessarily placing you well. A career coach works only for you, and brings no stake in any particular outcome. The two can run in parallel.

How many career coaching sessions will I need?

Most engagements run six to twelve sessions across three to six months. Six is usually enough for a single focused decision. Twelve suits a broader reset, like changing field or rebuilding after redundancy.

Is confidence coaching covered by health insurance?

Most UK private health insurance does not cover confidence coaching, as it is classed as personal development rather than medical treatment. Some workplace wellbeing programmes include coaching, so it is worth checking your employer's offering.

Why does confidence coaching at DWL involve the body?

Because confidence is physical before it is cognitive. The breath, posture and jaw tension that come with self-doubt aren't just symptoms — they help maintain the state. Working only on mindset while the body keeps signalling threat tends to stall.

How long does it take to build confidence through coaching?

There is no honest fixed answer. A specific confidence challenge often shifts within six sessions. A long-standing belief about your own worth takes longer and usually benefits from twelve, sometimes with somatic work alongside.

Can confidence coaching help with imposter syndrome?

Yes — it is the single most common reason people come. The work is rarely about adding competence, since most people with imposter syndrome are demonstrably capable. It is about closing the gap between genuine ability and the felt sense of it.

What's the difference between confidence coaching and therapy?

Coaching works forward from where you are — building self-trust through evidence and action, for people who are functioning and want to function better. Therapy works with the roots, often the past, and is the right answer when low self-worth is tied to trauma, depression, or a long history of being undermined.

What does DWL actually offer for executive coaching, and what do you refer out?

We offer an integrated performance-and-resilience coaching frame, held alongside the clinic's wellness and dental care. We refer out for board-level corporate coaching, public-company directorship work, and any clinical mental-health need.

How long does an executive coaching engagement take?

Typically six to twelve sessions over three to nine months. A single sharp goal can complete in four to six; longer developmental work runs a year or two at lower frequency.

Can executive coaching help with burnout?

It depends which burnout. For functional fatigue from sustained over-functioning, coaching helps with boundaries, delegation and recovery strategy. For clinical-level burnout, see your GP first. Coaching can help after a clinical assessment, not as a substitute for one.

Is what I discuss with an executive coach confidential?

Yes, with limited exceptions. The relationship is professionally confidential. In employer-funded work a tripartite agreement defines what's shared and what isn't. Coaches retain a duty to act where there is a risk of serious harm or a safeguarding obligation.

Should my employer pay for executive coaching?

Often, yes. Most established organisations fund executive coaching through L&D or development budgets, and the conversation usually runs through an HR partner or line manager. Self-funding is common during transitions.

How is executive coaching different from life coaching?

Executive coaching focuses on leadership performance, organisational dynamics and senior decision-making; life coaching addresses personal direction, relationships and habits. For senior leadership work specifically, a coach with genuine corporate context typically outperforms a generalist.

How quickly should I expect change from functional medicine?

Honest answer: root-cause work is measured in weeks to months, not days. Most plans are reviewed at structured intervals, and if nothing is moving, the plan changes — or we refer.

Why is a dental clinic offering functional medicine at all?

Because DWL was built as an integrative clinic from 2009, not a dental practice with add-ons. The mouth is part of the system — gum health, clenching, and breathing patterns are early systemic signals.

Can functional medicine replace seeing my GP?

No, and we won't pretend otherwise. Diagnosis, medication, and screening stay with your GP. Our work addresses the diet, lifestyle, stress, and systems dimensions that GP appointments rarely have time for.

Will you order functional medicine lab tests?

Only where a result would genuinely change the plan, and with the cost and rationale put in writing first. Much of the field's testing adds expense without changing decisions — we'd rather say that plainly.

Do I need a referral for functional medicine?

No. Book directly, starting with the free 20-minute chat. We do ask about your GP care, because this work is designed to run alongside it.

Is functional medicine the same as naturopathy or nutritional therapy?

They overlap heavily — root-cause logic, diet and lifestyle interventions, systems thinking. Functional medicine is the contemporary, lab-informed framing; naturopathy is the older tradition; nutritional therapy is the dietary core. Nicoletta is trained across all three.

Will meditation help with sleep?

Often yes, modestly. Pre-sleep slow breathing and body-scan practice have good evidence for reducing sleep-onset latency and improving subjective sleep quality. It works less well for waking through the night, which often has different drivers.
