A private dentist for Shoreditch, one stop from Old Street

Search for a dentist around Shoreditch, Old Street or Hoxton and you will find no shortage of options. E2 and EC2A are busy, well-served postcodes, and most practices can fit you in between meetings. The real question is not where the nearest chair is, but what kind of dentistry you want for the next twenty years, and who you trust to think that far ahead.

Dental & Wellness London is at 222 Essex Road, Islington, London N1 3AP, one stop by rail from Old Street. We have been on Essex Road since 2009 as a private, independent practice, and we are rated 4.7 stars from more than 300 Google reviews. This page explains how to reach us from Shoreditch, what Shoreditch patients tend to come to us for, and where we differ from the practices you pass on the way.

Choosing a dentist when you live or work in Shoreditch

A quick appointment near the office solves today’s problem. That has its place, and for a simple check-up it may be all you need. But much of the dentistry people look for in their twenties, thirties and forties is elective and long-lived: straightening, bonding, whitening, replacing a worn or broken tooth. Those decisions are worth more than a convenient slot, because the work will be in your mouth for a very long time.

When patients from Shoreditch compare practices, we suggest asking a few plain questions:

  • Who plans the treatment, and who carries it out? At our clinic the dentist who plans your care is the one who reviews it.
  • What training sits behind the cosmetic work? Cosmetic dentistry without restorative training can look good for a photograph and age poorly.
  • Will they tell you when treatment is not needed? We say no to treatment we do not think you need, and we do so often.
  • Are the costs written down before anything starts? Every option and every cost is set out in a written plan before any treatment begins.

We built Dental & Wellness London to solve the problem properly the first time, and to consider the rest of your health while we are at it. The promise is plain: an honest consultation, not a sales conversation.

Getting to the clinic from Shoreditch

The journey north from Shoreditch is short and simple, with no changes needed.

  • By bike or e-bike: about 10 to 15 minutes from Old Street or Shoreditch. Many of our Shoreditch patients use a Lime or Forest e-bike, and it is often the quickest way to reach us.
  • By rail from Old Street: Great Northern trains run one stop to Essex Road station, about two minutes’ walk from the clinic. Door to door, around 10 to 15 minutes from Old Street. The same line also serves Moorgate, which is useful if you work further into the City.
  • On foot: about 30 minutes from Old Street via New North Road.
  • By bus on Essex Road: the 38, 56, 73, 341 and 476 all run along Essex Road and stop within a couple of minutes of the door.

There is metered parking on the surrounding streets if you drive, though for most Shoreditch patients the train or a bike is quicker than finding a space.

Why Shoreditch patients choose Dental & Wellness London

Shoreditch has plenty of competent dentists. What patients tell us they were looking for, and did not find nearer the office, is a practice that treats the mouth as part of the body rather than a set of teeth to fix in isolation, and that plans cosmetic work for the long term.

The mouth as part of the body

In a busy creative and tech catchment, clenching and tooth wear are common. Long screen days, deadlines and late nights tend to show up in the jaw muscles and on the biting edges of the teeth. Because dentistry sits alongside wellness care at the clinic, we can look at sleep and stress as well as the bite, and suggest a dental plan that deals with the cause, not only the damage. That might mean protecting the teeth with a Davies splint (£495), repairing worn edges conservatively, and, where it would help, a conversation with one of our wellness practitioners. We are careful never to overclaim what dentistry can do for general health, and where something needs medical attention we will refer you to your GP.

Cosmetic dentistry designed with your future in mind

Dr Vishal Patel holds an MSc in Aesthetic & Restorative Dentistry from Manchester and has around twenty years in dentistry. Cosmetic dentistry done well is not designed for today. We know what happens to lips, teeth and smiles as we age, so we plan for how a smile will look in ten and twenty years, rather than for a single photograph. Because the same clinician is trained in both aesthetics and restorative dentistry, every cosmetic decision is also a functional one: a good appearance and a healthy bite together, not one at the expense of the other. It is the approach behind our work as a cosmetic dentist in Islington.

Invisalign planned by a Diamond II provider

Dr Patel plans every Invisalign case himself as a Diamond II provider. Where it is appropriate, we favour arch expansion and a non-extraction approach, looking at how the teeth can support the smile from within. Often the best cosmetic sequence is alignment first, then whitening, then any small bonding refinements, so that each step builds on the last.

What Shoreditch patients book most often

  • Composite bonding from £175 for a simple case and £350 for a complex one, designed around facial proportion rather than a template. Bonding is conservative and, in most cases, reversible.
  • Invisalign, with a free consultation including an iTero scan and ClinCheck preview. Treatment is £2,200 for Express, £3,400 for Moderate and £4,500–£4,900 for Unlimited, with the right option confirmed after your consultation.
  • Teeth whitening from £450, or £780 for combination whitening.
  • Examinations (30 minutes, £65, with a full risk assessment) and hygiene (30 minutes, £85, deep clean included), in early or late weekday slots.
  • Restorative care, including crowns and onlays in Islington (£750–£1,200), root canal treatment (£550–£950) and dental implants in Islington from £2,200 including the crown, with implant work carried out by Dr Rishil Patel, who holds a master’s degree in implantology.

Skin and wellness under the same roof

Dentistry is the main reason most Shoreditch patients first visit, but it is not the only care we offer. Aesthetic medicine is prescribed and administered by Dr Patel in the same building as your dental care, after a consultation. He has ten years of experience in facial aesthetics, and a skin or aesthetic consultation costs £65, redeemable in full against treatment.

Treatments people ask about include anti-wrinkle treatment in Islington from £169 (including a two-week refresh), dermal filler from £350, Profhilo at £350, and HydraFacial from £160. For patients whose smile and facial concerns overlap, it helps to have one clinician who understands both the teeth and the face around them. Results vary from person to person, and we will tell you if we do not think a treatment is right for you.

The clinic’s wellness team includes Dr Reena Sohal (Ayurvedic consultations), Nicoletta Peloni (nutritional therapy), Laura-Maria Schober (somatic coaching and mindfulness) and Binta Patel (life and relationship coaching). For the clenching, poor sleep and stress that are common among people working long hours, these practitioners can support general wellbeing alongside your GP, not instead of them.

Appointments around a working day

We are open from 8am to 7pm, Monday to Friday (Tuesday from 9am), so early and early-evening appointments are possible before or after work. The early and late slots fill quickly, so for a busy Shoreditch schedule the honest advice is to book ahead. You do not need a referral, and you do not need to leave your current dentist to come in for a one-off opinion or a cosmetic consultation.

If you have a broken tooth or sudden pain, phone or WhatsApp us early in the day and we will offer the soonest slot we can for a dental problem assessment (£75).

FAQs

How do I get from Shoreditch or Old Street to the clinic?

Take a Great Northern train one stop from Old Street to Essex Road station, about two minutes’ walk from us at 222 Essex Road, N1 3AP. Door to door it takes around 10 to 15 minutes. On foot it is about 30 minutes via New North Road. Many patients cycle: by bike or e-bike (Lime or Forest) it is about 10 to 15 minutes from Old Street or Shoreditch.

Are you taking new patients from Shoreditch?

Yes. We welcome new patients from Shoreditch, Hoxton, E2 and EC2A. You do not need a referral, and you can book a one-off examination or cosmetic opinion without leaving your current dentist.

How much does it cost to see a private dentist in Shoreditch?

At Dental & Wellness London a dental examination is £65 (30 minutes, including a full risk assessment), hygiene is £85, and a dental problem assessment is £75. Composite bonding is £175 for a simple edge or £350 for complex cases. The Invisalign consultation is free.

Is there an emergency dentist near Shoreditch?

Phone or WhatsApp us early on a weekday and we will offer the soonest slot we can for a dental problem assessment (£75). We are closed at weekends and do not take walk-ins. Out of hours, NHS 111 can direct you to urgent dental care.

Do you offer early or evening appointments?

Yes. We are open 8am to 7pm, Monday to Friday (Tuesday from 9am), so appointments before or after work are possible. We do not open at weekends, so booking ahead is the best way to secure an early or late slot.

What is the 2 year rule for dentists?

There is no national rule that stops you being seen after two years away. NHS practices do not keep permanent registers, so they may treat a returning patient as new. We are a private practice: however long it has been, you book a 30-minute examination (£65) and we start from where things are today.
