Choosing a dentist near Angel

If you search for a dentist around Angel or Upper Street, you will not be short of options. This corner of N1 has more established dental practices than any other neighbourhood we serve, and most of them can fit you in for a check-up. Many of our Angel patients have seen someone nearer first. So the useful question is not where the nearest chair is. It is what kind of dentistry you want over the next twenty years, and who you trust to think that far ahead.

That is the honest framing we would offer anyone weighing up the walk. A quick appointment can solve today’s problem. What we set up Dental & Wellness London to do, on Essex Road since 2009, is to solve the problem properly the first time and to plan for how your teeth will look and work a decade from now. This page explains how to reach us from Angel, what Angel and Upper Street patients tend to come to us for, and where we differ from the practices you will pass on the way.

A few things are worth checking wherever you go. Ask who will actually treat you, and what their training is in the area you care about. Ask whether the first appointment is an examination or a sales conversation. Ask whether costs are set out in writing before treatment begins. And ask whether the practice is willing to say that you do not need something. Those answers usually tell you more than a shop front on Upper Street.

Travelling from Angel to Dental & Wellness London

The clinic is at 222 Essex Road, Islington, London N1 3AP, about 15 to 20 minutes’ walk from Angel station. From the station, head north along Upper Street, past Islington Green, and bear right where the road forks onto Essex Road. It is a flat, straightforward walk with no changes. The clinic has been in the same building since 2009.

Getting here

  • By bike or e-bike: about 5 to 10 minutes from Angel, along Upper Street and Essex Road. Many of our Angel patients use a Lime or Forest e-bike, and it is often the quickest way to reach us.
  • On foot from Angel (Northern line): around 15 to 20 minutes via Upper Street and Essex Road.
  • By bus: the 38, 56, 73, 341 and 476 run along Essex Road from Angel; the 38 is the most direct.
  • By rail: Essex Road station (Great Northern) is the closest station to the clinic, about two minutes’ walk away, one stop from Highbury & Islington and one from Old Street.
  • By car: street parking on and around Essex Road is metered and controlled. Most patients find public transport simpler.

If you live or work around Chapel Market, Camden Passage or the top of St John Street, the bus along Essex Road is the easy option in poor weather; on a dry day, most people simply walk or cycle. Patients also travel from Holloway.

Why Angel patients choose Dental & Wellness London

Angel has plenty of competent dentists. When patients make the extra journey up Essex Road, it is usually for one of three reasons.

Cosmetic dentistry planned for the long term. Dr Vishal Patel’s MSc in Aesthetic & Restorative Dentistry (Manchester) shapes how every cosmetic case is planned: for how the smile will look and function in ten and twenty years, not just in the next photograph. Because the same clinician is trained in both aesthetics and restorative dentistry, every cosmetic decision is also a functional one.

Invisalign at Diamond II level. Dr Patel plans and delivers every Invisalign case himself and is an Invisalign Diamond II provider. The Invisalign consultation, including an iTero scan and ClinCheck preview, is free.

An integrative clinic. Dentistry, skin and body treatments, and wellness practitioners work under one roof, so concerns that cross disciplines, such as jaw tension that is also stress, can be looked at together.

Underneath all three is a simple promise: an honest consultation, not a sales conversation. We say no to treatment we do not think you need, and we explain why. Dr Patel has around twenty years in dentistry, is a member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry and is registered with the GDC (103127). The clinic is rated 4.7 from more than 300 Google reviews, and we are a private practice, so we do not provide NHS treatment.

Cosmetic dentistry with a long-term view

Cosmetic dentistry done well is not designed for today. It is designed with your future in mind. We know what happens to lips, teeth and smiles as we age, so we use anti-ageing smile protocols and techniques intended to keep a smile looking youthful with time, rather than optimising it for a single image. This is the approach behind our work as a cosmetic dentist in Islington.

With Invisalign, we favour arch expansion where possible and a non-extraction method, looking at how your teeth can support the smile and the face from within. With composite bonding and veneers, we plan around facial proportion, the way your lips move and the bite underneath, rather than applying a template. The aim is optimal aesthetics and optimal function together, not one at the expense of the other. Results vary from person to person, and we will tell you plainly what is realistic for your teeth.

That long-term lens is something a quick appointment, or a direct-to-consumer aligner brand, rarely has time to think through. It is also why we take records, photographs and scans before we recommend anything, and why the plan you receive sets out options rather than a single answer.

Dental treatments Angel patients book most

People come to us from Angel and Upper Street for the full range of general and cosmetic dentistry. The treatments booked most often are:

  • Invisalign: as an Invisalign Diamond II provider, we offer Express at £2,200, Moderate at £3,400 and Unlimited at £4,500 to £4,900, depending on the complexity of the case. The consultation is free.
  • Composite bonding and veneers: bonding is £175 for a simple tooth and £350 for a complex one; composite veneers are £350 to £500 per tooth, and porcelain veneers £750 to £1,500 per tooth. There is more detail on our page about veneers in Islington. For local appointments, see composite bonding in Islington.
  • Hygiene and gum care: our hygiene appointments in Islington are 30 minutes, at £85 with a deep clean included, or £135 for Diamond hygiene. Where gum disease needs more than routine care, periodontal treatment is £255.
  • Teeth whitening: dentist-led whitening in Islington is £450 for a single system and £780 for combination whitening, with internal whitening for a single darkened tooth at £495.
  • Dental implants: implant treatment is led by our implant dentist, Dr Rishil Patel (MClinDent Implantology, GDC 154292), and starts from £2,200 including the crown.
  • General and restorative dentistry: examinations, crowns, onlays and inlays in Islington (£750 to £1,200), root canal treatment (£550 to £950) and the rest of our private dentistry in Islington.

A dental examination is £65 for 30 minutes and includes a full risk assessment. A children’s examination is £45, and under-fives are seen free alongside a parent’s examination. If something has gone wrong, a dental problem assessment is £75.

Skin, body and wellness under one roof

Alongside dentistry, the clinic offers skin and aesthetic treatments, from medical-grade facials and HydraFacial to laser and IPL treatments, skin boosters and anti-wrinkle treatment. A skin or aesthetic consultation is £65 and is redeemable in full against treatment, and laser and IPL patch tests are free.

Aesthetic medicine at the clinic is prescribed and administered by Dr Vishal Patel, who has worked in facial aesthetics for ten years and trained with the International Fellowship in Advanced Aesthetic Science, the University of Amsterdam (facial anatomy) and Harley Academy. Every prescription treatment begins with a consultation; nothing is booked straight onto a treatment list.

The clinic’s wellness team includes Dr Reena Sohal (Ayurvedic medicine), Nicoletta Peloni (nutritional therapy), Laura-Maria Schober (somatic coaching and mindfulness) and Binta Patel (life and relationship coaching). Their work supports, rather than replaces, care from your GP. Most patients come for one thing; some find the combination useful later, for example when clenching, tooth wear or recurring gum inflammation sits alongside stress, sleep or diet.

Appointments that fit a working day

Many of our Angel patients work locally or in the City. Early and early-evening appointments, Monday to Friday, make it possible to come before or after work, and Essex Road station puts us one stop from Old Street. Hygiene appointments are 30 minutes; a dental examination is 30 minutes and includes a full risk assessment. Longer treatments are planned so that the number of visits, and the time away from your desk, is clear from the start. Patients also travel from Shoreditch.

You do not need a referral, and you do not need to leave your current dentist to come in for a one-off opinion, a second opinion on a treatment plan, or a cosmetic or Invisalign consultation. If you have sudden pain or a broken tooth, our page on the emergency dentist in Islington explains what to do next.

Booking, opening hours and finance

The clinic is open Monday to Friday, 8am to 7pm (Tuesday from 9am), by appointment. We do not open at weekends and do not take walk-ins, so in a busy catchment like Angel it is worth booking ahead; the early and late weekday slots tend to go first.

If you are unsure where to start, a free 20-minute discovery call by phone answers your questions and finds the right first appointment. After your examination or consultation, your options and every cost are confirmed in writing before treatment begins. For larger plans such as Invisalign or implants, finance is available at 0% APR over 12 months.
