Usually, yes. An old tattoo has already faded because your immune system has been clearing pigment for years, so there's less ink left, sitting higher and looser in the skin. That typically means fewer sessions — often around four to six — than a dense new tattoo of the same size. Colour and any hidden cover-up layers can still affect the count.
No. Most of the people we coach are not starting from a position of fitness — they are starting from real life, often after a long gap. The first sessions meet your body where it is and build from there.
Tell us your preference when you book and we will do our best to match you with a trainer you are comfortable with. Being at ease with the person coaching you is part of what makes one-to-one training work.
Yes, when the time is right. We ask you to wait for your six-week postnatal check (longer after a caesarean) and work patiently and progressively from a sensible starting point, ideally with a trainer holding a pre- and postnatal qualification.
For most people, two sessions a week with a trainer plus some independent activity builds momentum without overloading the week. We set the frequency around your time and recovery, not a fixed package, and review it as you progress.
A certified trainer should hold a recognised Level 3 Certificate or Diploma in Personal Training as a minimum, ideally with a Level 4 specialism for specific populations or advanced goals, registration with a professional body such as CIMSPA or Active IQ, and professional indemnity insurance. Ask specifically about a pre- and postnatal qualification if training after pregnancy.
Costs vary with a trainer's qualifications, experience, and whether you book single sessions or a package. At DWL we offer individual sessions and discounted blocks, with rates confirmed at your free initial consultation and available on enquiry. Packages reduce the per-session cost for regular clients.
Personal training is one-to-one coaching with a qualified trainer who creates a customised exercise programme around your health and fitness goals. Whether you are starting from scratch, returning after a break, or working toward a specific goal, a trainer assesses where you are, designs a plan to suit your level and lifestyle, supervises your sessions for safe and effective technique, and adjusts the programme as you progress.
Onda is delivered by a trained clinician under the clinical governance of our founder, Dr Vishal Patel. Onda is a device-based treatment, not a prescription medicine, so it does not require a prescriber — but it does require careful case selection, which is where our assessment comes in.
Onda gives a mild tightening effect and can improve the texture associated with cellulite, but it is primarily a fat-reduction treatment. If loose skin is your main concern, we will tell you honestly that a dedicated skin-tightening approach suits you better.
Typically four to six per area, though this depends on the area and what you are trying to achieve. We assess this properly at consultation and quote the whole plan in writing, rather than commit you open-endedly.
The treated fat cells clear gradually, so results build over the weeks following each session and continue developing across the course. Fat cells cleared do not return, but remaining cells can still enlarge with weight gain — which is why lasting results belong to patients who pair Onda with a stable diet and activity pattern.
Most patients describe a warming sensation and find it comfortable. Because the skin surface is protected and there is no incision, there is essentially no downtime — you can return to normal activity straight away. Mild redness or warmth in the area afterwards is normal and settles quickly.
No. Onda reduces fat volume in a specific treated area; it does not meaningfully change your weight and is not a substitute for diet, movement or medical weight management. It is a contouring treatment for defined pockets that do not respond to those things, used on a stable frame.
Quality matters, and so does the right wavelength for your ink. Beyond that, the brand name matters less than the operator's skill and the honesty of the plan. We use a Q-switched laser; picosecond devices exist and may clear some colours in fewer sessions, so we explain the difference plainly at consultation.
Black and dark blue clear fastest. Greens and bright blues are slower. Some yellows and whites barely respond to any laser. We will tell you honestly which colours in your tattoo will be stubborn before you commit to a course.
Usually six to twelve for full removal, spaced six to eight weeks apart, depending on ink colour, density, age and depth. We give you a realistic range at consultation after a patch test rather than a fixed promise.
Both are picosecond lasers from the same category, with some differences in wavelengths and pulse delivery. For most black and dark-blue body tattoos the practical difference is small. We do not use either; we use a Q-switched laser, and we are open about how it compares.
PicoWay is a well-regarded picosecond device, one of several on the market. What decides your result is the right wavelength for your ink, the skill of the operator and an honest course plan. We use a Q-switched laser rather than a picosecond system.
If you are searching for a PicoWay alternative, we use a Q-switched laser. Q-switched lasers fire in nanoseconds, are well established for black and dark-blue ink, and some colours may need more sessions or may not clear fully. We do not claim parity with picosecond devices, and we will explain what to expect at a free patch test.
A dental examination is £65 (30 minutes, including a full risk assessment), hygiene is £85, and a children’s examination is £45. A skin consultation is £65, redeemable in full against treatment, and the Invisalign consultation is free.
There is no national rule that stops you being seen after two years away. NHS practices do not keep permanent registers, so they may treat a returning patient as new. We are a private practice: however long it has been, you book a 30-minute examination (£65) and we start from where things are today.
Yes. We welcome new patients from Canonbury and across Islington N1. You do not need a referral, and you can book a one-off examination without leaving your current dentist.
