Should I be screened before treatment?

Skin

For laser hair removal specifically, no — there's no medical requirement for cancer screening before laser hair removal. However, regular skin self-examination and GP review for any concerning moles is good general practice regardless of laser treatment.

Is there downtime?

Skin

None. Patients return to normal activity immediately, including makeup application. Some mild flushing for 30-60 minutes post-treatment from the LED warmth but resolves before leaving the clinic.

Is there an upgrade if my case is more complex than expected?

Skin

Express and Moderate each include one refinement; further refinements are quoted in writing if needed. If your case proves more complex than expected, options include additional refinements or aligners, or moving to the Unlimited plan, which covers refinements as the case requires with multi-year aligner cover (terms and conditions apply).

Is there a way to extend it?

Skin

Marginally — long-term continuous maintenance sometimes gradually extends duration as the muscle adapts. Reducing excessive mouth activity is theoretical and impractical. We don't recommend dose increases. The honest answer is: aim to live with the 6–10 week duration rather than fight it.

Is the vampire facial the same as PRP?

Skin

“Vampire facial” is a popular name for PRP combined with microneedling. PRP can also be injected on its own. We recommend whichever suits your skin.

Is the splint included?

Skin

No. The Davies splint (£495) is separate from masseter anti-wrinkle treatment (from £300). We recommend the splint either before or alongside treatment in most masseter cases, because the underlying bite cause matters more than the muscle. Combined plans are confirmed in writing at consultation.

Is the course discount worth it?

Skin

For committed monthly patients yes — saves £165 over 6 sessions. For event-led occasional use, single sessions fine.

Is the consultation included in the treatment price?

Skin

No. The £65 consultation fee is separate, paid at consultation, and redeemable in full against treatment if you proceed. UK regulatory rules require a consultation before any prescription aesthetic treatment.

Is the consultation included?

Skin

The skin and aesthetic consultation is £65, redeemable in full against treatment if you go ahead. For prescription aesthetic treatments, a consultation always comes first and the treatment is prescribed and administered by Dr Vishal Patel.

Is the consultation fee refunded if I don't proceed?

Skin

The £65 consultation fee covers the clinical assessment and the written summary you leave with. It is redeemable in full against treatment if you proceed, so the consultation is effectively free if you book treatment. If you do not proceed, the fee covers the clinical work and is not refunded.

Is saline faster?

Skin

No — slower in session count (10+ vs 6–10 typically) and similar in per-session time. The advantage of saline isn't speed; it's safety for specific pigments where laser would risk paradoxical darkening.

Is Profhilo neck-and-chest cheaper than facial?

Skin

Profhilo is £350 per session, or £625 for two sessions. The fee for a neck and chest plan, or a combined face and neck plan, depends on the area and technique and is confirmed in writing at your consultation.

Is Profhilo cheaper if I book the course?

Skin

Yes. A single Profhilo session is £350, and two sessions are £625, a saving of £75. The starting protocol uses two sessions for full effect, so most new patients book the course. Maintenance sessions are priced individually at £350.

Is PIH risk higher for darker skin?

Skin

Yes. Fitzpatrick IV-VI skin types have higher post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation risk even with appropriate wavelength selection (Nd:YAG 1064nm is the safer laser for darker skin). We recommend stricter sun-exposure rules (6 weeks pre and post), SPF50 with iron oxide for visible-light protection, and longer session intervals for darker-skin patients.

Is one safer than the other?

Skin

Both are safe when prescribed and placed appropriately. Both work in tissue planes containing vital facial structures — blood vessels, nerves, muscle function — and both require prescriber accountability. At DWL every aesthetic medicine treatment is prescribed by me (Dr Vishal Patel, GDC 103127). The safety difference between Profhilo and filler is more about who's placing them than about the products themselves.

Is one safer?

Skin

Both are safe in qualified prescriber hands. Both work in tissue planes containing vital facial structures. Safety depends on who's placing them more than which product.

Is mild redness after IPL normal?

Skin

Yes — mild redness for 12-48 hours is expected and normal. Slight warmth, mild swelling for 24 hours, and for pigmentation work, target spots may darken for 5-10 days before flaking off. Persistent redness beyond 5 days warrants a call to the clinic.

How quickly will I see the lip flip?

Skin

From day 3 to 5, with the full effect by about a week.

Is laser safe for darker skin tones?

Skin

Specific laser modalities are designed for darker skin types; others can cause pigmentation problems in darker skin. We use appropriate wavelengths and test-patch first. Skin-type assessment is essential before any laser pigmentation treatment.

Is laser definitely unsafe in pregnancy?

Skin

There's no direct evidence of harm. Laser uses non-ionising light that doesn't penetrate to where the foetus is. However, formal safety studies don't exist (for ethical reasons), so we take a precautionary approach common across UK clinics.

Is laser better than IPL?

Skin

Depends on what you're treating. Laser wins for darker hair on lighter skin, tattoo removal, deeper pigmentation. IPL wins for vascular indications (rosacea, thread veins) and skin rejuvenation photofacial. Neither is universally better.

Is it worse than waxing?

Skin

For most patients, no — laser is more comfortable than waxing per area, briefer per session, and reduces in discomfort over the treatment course (waxing stays the same each time). Net win on discomfort over the long run.

Is it suitable for weight loss?

Skin

No — targeted fat reduction in localised areas, not general weight loss. For weight loss the conversation needs to cover diet, exercise, and where appropriate medical weight management.

Is it suitable for post-pregnancy abdomen?

Skin

For mild-to-moderate post-pregnancy laxity, yes — Structura can improve skin quality and texture. For significant laxity, diastasis recti, or skin excess, surgical consultation is often the more appropriate conversation. We assess at consultation and discuss honestly.

Is it safe for sensitive skin?

Skin

Yes — Hydrafacial protocols adapt for skin type. The intensity, serum choice, and extraction can be calibrated for sensitive skin without compromising effect. We assess at booking.
