Is the first cosmetic consultation free?

Dental

We offer a free 20-minute discovery call by phone. The cosmetic consultation itself is £65. Orthodontic consultations, including Invisalign, are free and include an iTero scan and ClinCheck plan, so if straightening is part of your plan that stage costs nothing to explore.

How much does a cosmetic dentist cost in Islington?

Dental

It depends on the treatment. At Dental & Wellness London, composite bonding is £175 or £350 per tooth, whitening £450 or £780, porcelain veneers £750 to £1,500 per tooth, and Invisalign from £2,200. The consultation is £65, and 0% APR finance over 12 months via Tabeo is available, subject to status.

Do I need a check-up before composite bonding?

Dental

Yes. We need to know your teeth and gums are healthy before adding anything cosmetic. If you are not already a patient, we assess this at your consultation and may recommend a hygiene appointment first. Bonding placed over active decay or inflamed gums does not last, so foundations come before cosmetics.

Do I need to be registered to book a hygienist?

Dental

No. You can book a hygiene appointment directly with us without being a registered patient and without a prior examination. We do recommend a dental examination as well, which is £65 for 30 minutes, because the hygienist and the dentist look for different things.

Is composite bonding permanent?

Dental

No. Composite bonding is long-lasting but not permanent. It commonly lasts five to seven years before refurbishment, sometimes longer, and can be re-polished, repaired or replaced. Because little or no enamel is removed, it can usually be reversed or changed later, which is one reason many people choose it before considering porcelain veneers.

Why do my gums bleed after a hygiene visit?

Dental

A little bleeding for a day or two is normal, especially if your gums were inflamed before the clean. It usually settles as the gums heal and your home care improves. Bleeding that continues beyond a week or two is worth a call, as it can point to gum disease that needs periodontal treatment.

How do I look after composite bonding?

Dental

Brush and clean between your teeth as normal, avoid strongly coloured food and drink for the first 48 hours, and do not bite hard objects with bonded edges. Regular 30-minute hygiene visits help keep the surface polished. If you grind your teeth at night, a protective appliance significantly reduces the risk of chipping.

What is Diamond hygiene?

Dental

Diamond hygiene is our 30-minute appointment with air polishing, which uses a fine stream of powder, air and water to remove stain and plaque biofilm. It costs £135. It suits heavy staining, implants, aligners and anyone who finds traditional polishing uncomfortable. The clinical assessment and scaling are the same as the standard appointment.

What is included in a hygiene appointment in Islington?

Dental

At our Essex Road clinic, each 30-minute appointment includes a gum assessment, scaling above and below the gumline, a deep clean, polishing and tailored home-care advice. The standard appointment is £85. If more time is needed, we split the work across two visits at the regular price rather than rushing it.

Can composite bonding close gaps between teeth?

Dental

Small gaps can often be closed neatly with bonding, typically by adding resin to the sides of the neighbouring teeth. Larger gaps can make teeth look too wide if they are closed with bonding alone, so we may suggest moving the teeth first with aligners. Orthodontic consultations, including Invisalign, are free at our Islington practice.

How often should I see a hygienist?

Dental

For many people, every six months works well. If you smoke, have diabetes, wear aligners or have a history of gum disease, three- or four-monthly visits are often better. We base the interval on what we measure at your appointment rather than a fixed rule, and review it each time you come in.

Where is your family dental practice in Islington?

Dental

We are at 222 Essex Road, Islington, London N1 3AP, two minutes from Essex Road station and one stop from Highbury & Islington. Buses 38, 56, 73, 341 and 476 stop on Essex Road, and Angel is a 15–20 minute walk. We are open Monday to Friday, 8am to 7pm (Tuesday from 9am), by appointment.

Is edge bonding the same as composite bonding?

Dental

Edge bonding is one type of composite bonding. It adds resin only to the biting edges of the front teeth, to repair chips or even out lengths. Composite bonding is the broader term and also covers closing gaps, reshaping teeth and full-surface composite veneers. Edge bonding is our simple bonding category, at £175 per tooth.

What should I do if my child has toothache outside opening hours?

Dental

Call NHS 111, which can direct you to an urgent dental service out of hours. Seek emergency care straight away if there is facial swelling affecting the eye or breathing, or a high temperature. During our hours, Monday to Friday 8am to 7pm (Tuesday from 9am), call us on 020 8127 4567 and we will advise on the next step.

Is private dental care for children worth it?

Dental

For many families the value lies in time and continuity: longer appointments, the same dentist where possible, and a practice that can see the whole household together. NHS dentistry is free for under-18s, and we will always be clear about that. Our role is to make prevention thorough and visits calm, so that later treatment is rarely needed.

Can composite bonding be done in one visit?

Dental

Usually, yes. Most single-tooth bonding and edge bonding is completed in one appointment at our Essex Road practice, after a consultation to plan it. Larger cases involving several teeth may be split into two visits, and if whitening is part of the plan it is done first so the bonding can be matched to your final shade.

Can teenagers have Invisalign?

Dental

Yes, many teenagers are suitable for Invisalign once enough adult teeth have come through. Dr Vishal Patel is an Invisalign Diamond II provider. Fees are Express £2,200, Moderate £3,400 and Unlimited £4,500–£4,900, depending on complexity. The orthodontic consultation is free, and 0% APR finance over 12 months via Tabeo is available, subject to status.

At what age should my child have an orthodontic assessment?

Dental

Around the age of seven is a sensible time for a first look at the developing bite, when adult front teeth and first molars are coming through. Most children simply need monitoring, but a few benefit from earlier advice. Orthodontic consultations at our clinic are free and include an iTero scan where appropriate.

What happens if I am unhappy with my care?

Dental

Please tell us directly; most concerns are resolved quickly through a conversation. We have a published complaints procedure, and we respond to feedback, including on Google. If you remain unhappy, the procedure explains the independent routes available to you. We would always rather hear about a problem than have it left unresolved.

I am nervous about the dentist. What can I expect?

Dental

A calm, unhurried appointment. The examination lasts 30 minutes, which gives us time to talk first, explain each step and stop whenever you need. Nothing is done without your agreement, and no treatment is booked under pressure. Tell us about your anxiety when you book so we can plan around it.
