When can I wear makeup again?

Skin

24 hours minimum for facial IPL. Use mineral makeup ideally, gentle application, no scrubbing on removal. Mineral SPF can go on immediately and is the only exception.

When can I wear lipstick?

Skin

From 24 hours onwards. Use a clean applicator or fresh lipstick — don't share with others to avoid introducing bacteria to the recently-treated area. Avoid heavy lip exfoliation for the first 7 days.

When can I sun-expose after IPL?

Skin

Avoid direct sun for 2 weeks minimum, ideally 4 weeks. Avoid sun-holidays for at least 4 weeks after your last session, longer if treating pigmentation. Sun-exposure within the post-treatment window is the single biggest cause of poor IPL outcomes.

When can I stop sessions?

Skin

When you and the practitioner agree the hair reduction has reached the level you wanted, typically after 6–8 sessions for standard cases. Maintenance touch-ups every 6–12 months sustain results.

When can I restart retinol after IPL?

Skin

Day 10-14 minimum, alternate nights first. For patients who use retinoids long-term, we typically recommend pausing 5-7 days before the next IPL session as well as the post-treatment window. Daily retinol use can return after that buffer.

When can I go to the gym after IPL?

Skin

24 hours minimum, longer if your post-treatment redness is still present. Vigorous exercise raises core body temperature and prolongs the recovery phase. Light walking is fine immediately.

When can I exercise?

Skin

Light walking and easy cycling from 48 hours; moderate exercise (running, gym) from 1 week; intense exercise that raises core temperature significantly (HIIT, hot yoga, sauna) from 2 weeks. The temperature rule matters more than the intensity rule — anything that warms the face for more than 10 minutes should wait two weeks.

When can I chew normally?

Skin

Eating is fine from immediately after — start with softer foods for the first day, progress to normal foods at 48 hours. Some patients notice mild jaw fatigue with harder foods for the first 1–2 weeks as the muscle adjusts. By week 2 most patients have adapted; by month 3 the new baseline feels normal.

What's the total cost?

Skin

The total depends on the components selected, and is quoted in writing at consultation, so you know the full cost before you begin. 0% APR finance over 12 months via Tabeo, subject to status.

What's the downtime?

Skin

1-2 weeks for bruising and swelling to resolve. Avoid facial massage and aggressive movement during this period. Return to normal activity within days; full social recovery 1-2 weeks.

What's the difference between onlay and crown?

Skin

Onlay covers part of the tooth (one or more cusps); crown covers the entire tooth. Onlay preserves more natural tooth structure; crown provides more comprehensive protection. Onlays are often the right answer for cases that fall between 'too big for filling' and 'truly needs crown.'

What's the cost difference?

Skin

Laser lift and tighten starts from £195 per session and skin tightening from £225. A PDO thread lift starts from £600 for a single area, and the Korean V Lift mono-thread lift is £1,600. Combined plans are quoted in writing after assessment. Surgical face lifts cost considerably more and are not performed at DWL; we would refer you if surgery were the better option.

What's the best first treatment?

Skin

For melasma — topical regimen with strict sun protection. For PIH — combined topical and chemical peel. For sun damage and age spots — laser. The 'best' depends on what type of pigmentation.

What's included in a session?

Skin

60 minutes of structured training matched to your goals — typically strength, cardio, mobility, and posture components. Progressive overload across sessions tracked by the trainer.

What triggers regrowth?

Skin

Hormonal changes are the main triggers — pregnancy, menopause, PCOS, thyroid changes, certain medications. Stress-related hormonal shifts can temporarily reactivate follicles. For patients without these factors, the reduction tends to be more durable.

What SPF should I use after IPL?

Skin

SPF50 mineral (zinc oxide preferred over chemical filters) daily for at least 2 weeks, reapplied every 2 hours when outdoors. For patients with darker skin tones or melasma history, extend to 4 weeks and use SPF50 daily as a permanent habit.

What should I do first?

Skin

Strict sun protection (SPF 50+ daily, iron-oxide tinted SPF, hats, avoidance). Topical regimen (hydroquinone, retinoids, vitamin C). 3-6 months consistent use. Reassess.

What numbing cream do you use?

Skin

Prescription-grade topical lidocaine preparations — typically LMX4 (lidocaine 4%) or compounded versions for more sensitive areas. Applied 30-45 minutes pre-treatment with cling-film occlusion to activate. Included in session price at DWL for sensitive-area treatments.

What is the realistic outcome?

Skin

Substantial improvement for most scar profiles. Specific outcome per scar type discussed at consultation. We don't promise erasure — we promise honest assessment and meaningful improvement appropriate to your specific scars.

What is the most painful area to have IPL?

Skin

Upper lip, bikini line, and underarms are the most sensitive areas due to nerve density and skin thickness. Brazilian IPL sessions specifically benefit from topical numbing cream. Patients describe these areas as more like 'rubber-band snap' than the warm pinprick of less-sensitive areas.

What is the maintenance?

Skin

Twice-yearly hygiene appointments with implant-specific cleaning, daily home cleaning using interdental brushes around the bridge, and annual review with the implant team. Maintenance commitment is for life — the implants are designed to last 20+ years with good care.

What is the least painful area?

Skin

Larger areas with thicker skin and lower nerve density — back, thighs (outer and back), forearms, and stomach. Numbing rarely needed for these areas. The chilled sapphire cooling tip on our Lynton platform provides sufficient comfort for most patients in these zones.

What is the difference between IPL and laser?

Skin

Laser delivers a single coherent wavelength of light — one specific frequency, tightly focused. IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) delivers a broad spectrum of wavelengths filtered to specific bands. Both treat skin and hair, but laser is more precise and IPL is more versatile. Different tools for different jobs.

What is PAH and how common is it?

Skin

Paradoxical Adipose Hyperplasia is a complication where Coolsculpting-treated areas enlarge instead of shrinking. Estimated incidence 0.05–1% depending on study. Higher incidence in men. The hyperplasia is permanent and usually requires surgical correction.

What does an IPL photofacial do?

Skin

It uses pulses of broad-spectrum light to fade sun spots, freckling and fine surface redness, and to even out tone and texture. It is a rejuvenation treatment, different from IPL used for rosacea or for hair removal.
