Removing old faded tattoos — why fewer sessions are often needed

Why older tattoos clear faster

Sun exposure, immune-system clearance, and pigment quality all contribute to natural fade over years. Laser treatment then completes a process already underway rather than starting from full pigment density.

Realistic session counts

15+ years old: often 4-6 sessions. 10-15 years: typically 5-7 sessions. Under 5 years: standard 6-12 sessions. Our session-by-session tattoo removal progression shows what to expect.

Cost implications

Tattoo removal at DWL starts from £750 per course of up to 10 appointments. Older tattoos often need fewer appointments, and the likely number is confirmed at your consultation.

What we still assess at consultation

Specific pigments (stubborn colours still resist regardless of age), depth of placement, skin condition, location, and patient factors like smoking and immune status.
