Will dentures look natural?

Skin

Modern dentures with well-fitted teeth can look natural at conversational distance. Higher-quality dentures (premium acrylic, custom teeth) look more natural than budget options. Implant-supported solutions look most natural.

How much is a lip flip?

Skin

From £169 at Dental & Wellness London, after a £65 consultation, redeemable.

Will a lip flip cover my gummy smile?

Skin

For mild gummy smile (1–3mm of gum show) caused by hyperactive upper-lip muscle, yes — a precise lip flip can soften the muscle lift so more gum is covered during smiling. For significant gummy smile (4mm+) caused by skeletal vertical excess, lip flip helps marginally; the underlying cause needs orthodontic or surgical addressing. We assess in consultation.

Why so many sessions?

Skin

Hair growth cycles. Only follicles in anagen phase respond per session. Need multiple sessions to catch all follicles across cycles.

How is the masseter consultation different from a standard aesthetic consultation?

Skin

The masseter consultation covers dental and aesthetic assessment together — 60 minutes rather than the standard 45 — with Dr Patel's combined dental and aesthetic perspective. For masseter cases, that combined assessment is what matters.

What is the most effective treatment for melasma?

Skin

A combination of strict sun protection, clinical skincare and gentle peels, with prescription treatment where appropriate.

Why don't you offer it?

Skin

When we set up the skin services we assessed Morpheus8 against our existing alternatives (Lynton laser, Profhilo, combined approaches). The outcome variability and cost-vs-outcome assessment led us to choose differently. Our typical patient preference (predictable subtle outcomes) suited our alternatives better.

Why don't you offer Coolsculpting?

Skin

PAH risk profile. When we assessed Coolsculpting vs Onda for our practice, the PAH risk made Onda preferable. Clinical-judgment call, not safety claim against Coolsculpting.

Why doesn't Profhilo work immediately?

Skin

Because Profhilo is a biostimulator, not a filler. Filler adds volume the moment it's placed — immediate visible change. Profhilo signals the skin to produce new collagen and elastin over 8–12 weeks — gradual change. The two treatments work on different timescales because they do different things. If you want immediate change, filler. If you want sustained skin quality improvement, Profhilo.

Why does the ASA require 'reduction' wording?

Skin

Because 'permanent removal' overstates what laser hair removal achieves for most patients. Some follicles can reactivate over years, particularly with hormonal changes. 'Permanent reduction' is more honest. The ASA's role is preventing misleading advertising; this terminology requirement is part of that.

Why does pigmentation come back?

Skin

Sun exposure, hormones and inflammation keep producing pigment. Daily SPF 50 is the most important way to keep results.

Why does mine last shorter than my friend's?

Skin

Individual variation in muscle activity and metabolism. Active speakers and exercisers tend to metabolise faster; less active patients hold longer. Genetic 'fast metaboliser' status also plays a role. Not something we can predict in advance; we assess at the 2-week review.

Why does it take so many sessions?

Skin

Hair grows in cycles. Only 20–30% of follicles are in active growth phase at any moment and respond to laser. Each session catches that cycle's follicles. After 6–8 sessions cumulative coverage produces permanent reduction. The cycle math determines the session count.

Why does it need so much maintenance?

Skin

Hormonal drive continues activating new follicles. Without maintenance, regrowth follows.

Why does DWL use IPL instead of BBL?

Skin

Lynton is UK-manufactured with strong UK clinical support and evidence base, costs less per session (allowing us to charge from £180 vs £200-£350 typical for BBL), and delivers clinically equivalent outcomes for vascular work, photofacial rejuvenation, and hair removal. The clinical rationale matched our practice priorities.

Why do you recommend the splint first?

Skin

Because the splint addresses the underlying bite cause that drives masseter overactivity. Treating only the muscle without addressing the bite means the muscle re-activates between maintenance sessions — the patient ends up on indefinite aesthetic treatment without resolving the cycle. The splint can break the cycle in a way aesthetic medicine alone can't.

Why do I need both arches treated?

Skin

Bite issues involve both jaws. Aesthetic balance requires both. Long-term stability better with both. About 5 in 6 adult cases need dual.

Which treatment is right for my scars?

Skin

Depends on scar type. Ice-pick scars respond to TCA-CROSS. Boxcar scars to fractional laser or microneedling. Rolling scars to subcision plus microneedling. Most patients have mixed profiles needing different treatments for different scars. Mapped at consultation.

Which material is best?

Skin

Depends on tooth position. e.max ceramic for visible teeth (best aesthetic). Zirconia for back teeth (strongest under chewing forces). CEREC for same-day convenience when appropriate. Gold for specific cases.

Which lasts longest?

Skin

None is permanent, because skin keeps ageing. Tightening from HIFU and radiofrequency tends to last months rather than years, with maintenance common. ONDA fat reduction holds best with stable weight. We do not offer HIFU or standalone radiofrequency; at our clinic facial tightening uses Lynton laser lift and tighten.

Which lasts longer — Profhilo or filler?

Skin

Filler lasts 6–18 months depending on product and area; Profhilo's effect lasts 6–9 months for most patients with maintenance recommended at that interval. Filler is sometimes longer-lasting per session but produces a different outcome. Profhilo's effect is cumulative across maintenance sessions — patients on their 3rd or 4th annual maintenance often see better skin quality than at first session.

Which lasts longer?

Skin

Both produce permanent reduction (ASA 'reduction' not 'removal'). Maintenance touch-ups every 6-12 months for both.

Which is safer for darker skin?

Skin

Specific laser wavelengths (Nd:YAG 1064nm) safest for darker skin. IPL needs careful skin-type assessment.

Which is most painful?

Skin

HIFU is usually described as the most uncomfortable, with a deep heat sensation, because of the depth it reaches. Radiofrequency and microwave treatments tend to feel warm. We do not offer HIFU. ONDA and Lynton laser tightening at our clinic are generally well tolerated, and we talk you through what to expect beforehand.

Which is more natural-looking?

Skin

Lip flip is more natural by definition because it doesn't change the lip size. The lip is the same; just slightly differently positioned. Filler can look very natural when placed conservatively and unnaturally when overdone. The natural-looking question is more about clinical judgement than about which product.
