Clean Invisalign aligners after each removal by rinsing in cool water and brushing gently with a soft brush and clear, unscented soap or a dedicated cleaner. Soak periodically in Invisalign cleaning crystals. Avoid hot water, ordinary toothpaste, and coloured mouthwash, which warp, scratch, or stain the plastic and trap bacteria against your teeth.
The mistake that quietly undoes good treatment
An aligner sits over your teeth around 22 hours a day — a dirty aligner presses a sealed layer of bacteria against your teeth for almost the whole day. Preventing that takes about two minutes daily. You can read more about Invisalign treatment in Islington on our treatment page.
The daily routine — three habits
Rinse every time you remove them — a quick rinse under cool water washes away saliva before it dries on.
Brush them gently, morning and night — soft toothbrush, clear unscented soap or dedicated cleaner, never toothpaste.
Clean your teeth before they go back in — always brush, ideally floss, before reinserting.

Soaking
Invisalign cleaning crystals — the manufacturer's product, dissolve a sachet and soak roughly fifteen minutes. Alternative tablets from reputable brands work similarly. Avoid harsh home remedies that can discolour plastic or corrode attachments.
The four firm "don'ts"
Never use hot water — warps the thin plastic permanently, usually requiring a remake. Skip ordinary toothpaste — abrasive, scratches the surface cloudy. Avoid coloured or alcohol-based mouthwash — stains or degrades plastic. Don't let buildup gather at the gum line — brush that edge regularly.
Attachments and cleaning on the go
Trays with attachment pockets need the brush worked deliberately into each pocket. A small travel kit — toothbrush, toothpaste, rinse bottle, case — covers most situations away from home.
Keeping aligners clear
Store in the case whenever out, never wrapped in a napkin. Rinse before the case and before reinserting. Drink only water while wearing them.
