Why some patterns won't shift through talking alone — and how a body-aware approach works with what the conversation can't reach.

Body psychotherapy in London is a body-aware approach to emotional difficulty that treats physical sensation, posture and breath as part of the work, not a side-effect of it. It suits stress, tension and patterns that talking alone hasn't shifted. Sessions usually cost £60–£120, last 50–60 minutes, and run as a course rather than one-off.

How Laura-Maria works
Approach
The body holds patterns the mind can't always reach by reasoning. Emotion is physical before it is verbal. Long-held stress settles into the jaw, the shoulders, the way you stand. A body-aware approach refuses to treat those as noise.
Body psychotherapy is not magic and not a replacement for clinical mental-health care. It is a well-established tradition built on the fact that insight alone does not always reach the felt pattern. The work is done slowly, with consent at every step.
The gap between knowing and changing is exactly where body-aware work earns its place. We work at the level of the nervous system, so the felt pattern can update, not just the explanation of it.
Start with safety: Only go as deep as the nervous system feels safe to go. Build enough steadiness that paying attention to physical sensation feels manageable rather than overwhelming.
Track sensation without forcing: Notice where an emotion lives in the body and stay with it gently. Let it move at its own pace. Forcing produces nothing useful; patient attention produces change.
Close the loop: Sessions end with something small and concrete to carry into the week — a way of noticing, breathing or pausing — so the work doesn't stay sealed inside the consulting room.

This is body-psychodynamic coaching, not clinical psychotherapy — an honest scope we hold throughout. For a quieter, practice-based complement, see our meditation classes.

Highly recommend their current teeth whitening deal. Very accommodating and lovely service. Will be back! ***Updating after completing my Invisalign to recommend again. I’m based in Dalston and was super self-conscious about my slightly twisted teeth. Looked at clear aligners vs Invisalign at different places but Dental & Wellness London’s expertise won me over. They used 3D tech to show exactly how my teeth would shift. Appointments were always on time, easy to pop over from Dalston. Finished with whitening and now I love smiling in photos.

If your question isn't answered here, call reception on 020 8127 4567 or email reception.

What's the difference between body psychotherapy and ordinary talking therapy?

Talking therapy works mainly through thought, narrative and insight. Body-aware work adds the physical layer — sensation, breath, posture, tension — because emotion is physical before it is verbal. What we offer is body-psychodynamic and somatic coaching informed by these principles, not clinical psychotherapy for a diagnosed condition.

Is body psychotherapy the same as somatic therapy?

They overlap heavily and the terms are often used interchangeably. "Body psychotherapy" tends to name the broader psychotherapeutic tradition, while "somatic therapy" usually points to specific body-based methods within it.

Can body psychotherapy help if I just feel stuck and don't know why?

Often, yes — that vague, hard-to-name stuckness is one of the most common reasons people come. When you can't put words to what's wrong, working from the body rather than the explanation can be a way in.

Is body psychotherapy suitable if I've experienced trauma?

It depends on the trauma and where you are with it. Acute or unprocessed trauma needs qualified trauma-specific care first; gentle body-aware work sometimes supports that in parallel, but it does not replace it.

Is body psychotherapy covered by health insurance?

Most UK private health insurance covers clinical psychotherapy delivered by registered practitioners, but rarely covers coaching or somatic work classed as wellbeing rather than treatment.
