What Juvéderm Volite does well, where it doesn't, and how to decide against Profhilo and Sunekos
Volite is a hyaluronic acid skin booster that improves hydration, smoothness and elasticity. One session usually lasts six to nine months. It is not a filler. At Dental & Wellness London, Islington, Volite is from £250 per session, administered by Dr Vishal Patel.

Volite is a hyaluronic acid skin booster from the Juvéderm range. It is injected in tiny amounts across the skin to improve hydration, smoothness and elasticity, giving a fresher, more even texture. It is not a filler and does not change your shape. Its main advantage is convenience: one session usually lasts six to nine months.
Volite is built on the same cross-linking technology as the range’s better-known fillers, but it is formulated and placed to behave quite differently. Where a filler is designed to hold shape and add volume, Volite is a soft, lightly cross-linked gel placed in small, shallow deposits across the treatment area. Its job is the condition of the skin rather than its contour: moisture drawn in and held there, smoother texture, better elasticity and a modest improvement in fine crepiness. It is classed as an injectable medical device and, at our Islington clinic, is offered after a skin consultation.
The cross-linking explains both Volite’s strengths and its limits.
The typical Volite patient has skin that looks dull, dry and finely lined, often from the late thirties onwards and often made worse by city life, screens, central heating and years of sun exposure, and wants a lasting improvement without committing to a course. The cheeks, lower face and neck are the usual areas, and the backs of the hands respond well too.
Volite is also a sensible way to maintain a result. If your skin responded well to a booster course before and you want to hold the improvement with as few visits a year as possible, a single session once or twice a year is a realistic rhythm.
It suits less well where skin is very thin, fragile or markedly sun-damaged and needs repair more than hydration, in the immediate under-eye area, where other boosters are usually better matched, and wherever the real concern is volume or laxity beyond what hydration can address. We do not treat during pregnancy or breastfeeding, over active infection or a cold sore, or where there has been a significant reaction to hyaluronic acid, and some medical conditions and blood-thinning medication need discussion first.
Volite suits people who want smoother, more hydrated skin from a single visit. Profhilo is given as two sessions and spreads widely, suiting broad hydration and early laxity. We recommend the one that fits your skin and goals. If a polynucleotide booster appeals, see Plinest. See also our skin boosters guide.
Profhilo is a stabilised hyaluronic acid given as two sessions a month apart, and its slow spread gives a subtle firming effect alongside hydration across the lower face and neck. Sunekos combines hyaluronic acid with amino acids, is usually given as four sessions on a faster rhythm, and is often chosen for the eye area. Volite is the durability and convenience option for skin whose main need is lasting hydration and surface quality. Restylane Skinboosters, polynucleotides and Plinest are further options with their own strengths. These treatments overlap but are not interchangeable, and which one your skin needs is exactly what the consultation decides.
Numbing cream is applied, then a series of small injections. Small bumps settle within a day or two, and occasional bruising within a week. The result builds over about four weeks. Prescribed and administered by Dr Vishal Patel, BDS, MSc Aesthetic & Restorative Dentistry, GDC 103127, the clinic’s sole aesthetic prescriber.
Your first appointment is an assessment: a skin examination, your medical history, baseline photographs and an honest conversation about whether Volite, or any booster, fits what you see in the mirror. If it does, we agree the area and the amount of product your skin needs.
The treatment itself is brief. After numbing, small, shallow injections are placed in a pattern across the area. Most people describe pinpricks rather than pain. You can return to normal life straight away, keeping make-up off the injection points for a day and avoiding saunas, hot baths and hard exercise for 48 hours.
On the face, Volite is usually placed across the cheeks and lower face, where dryness and fine crepiness show first in daylight and under make-up. The neck is a common second area, because its skin is thinner, has fewer oil glands and often looks older than the face above it; a hydration-led booster suits it well, though deeper horizontal neck lines may need a combined plan. The backs of the hands are the area people forget, yet they often give away sun exposure and age more than the face does. Here Volite improves crepiness and the dull, papery look of the skin. Each area needs its own volume of product and its own depth, which is why we price and plan by area rather than by syringe. Some people treat one area first and add another at a later visit once they have seen how their skin responds.
Hydration usually registers within the first two weeks, and texture and elasticity continue to improve over the following month. We review against your baseline photographs rather than memory, with a planned check about a month after treatment. Results typically hold for six to nine months, and a single session every six to twelve months is a realistic maintenance plan if you want to keep the result. Age, skin condition, sun exposure and lifestyle all move that figure, and results vary from person to person.
Expected effects are small bumps, mild redness, tenderness and occasional bruising at the injection points, all of which settle within days. Rarer effects include infection, lumps that need massage or treatment, and, as with any facial injection, a very small risk of a problem with a blood vessel. Because Volite is a hyaluronic acid gel, it can be dissolved with hyaluronidase if needed. We use sterile technique and a conservative approach, and Dr Patel’s anatomy training, including a facial anatomy and cadaver course, underpins where and how deeply each injection is placed.
The final figure depends on the area treated and the amount of product your plan needs; a face and neck plan uses more than a cheeks-only refresh. Because Volite is a single-session treatment, comparing it with course-based boosters needs whole-plan arithmetic. Per year of result, the options often land closer together than per-visit prices suggest, which is why we give you the full cost in writing before anything is booked. A very low Volite price elsewhere usually means less product than the area needs. Finance is available at 0% APR over 12 months.
Dr Vishal Patel plans and carries out every skin booster treatment at Dental & Wellness London. He qualified in dentistry at Liverpool, holds an MSc in Aesthetic & Restorative Dentistry from Manchester and has around 20 years in dentistry, including 10 years in facial aesthetics. As a dentist he works every day around the blood vessels, nerves and muscles of the face, and that anatomical familiarity guides how conservatively and precisely we treat. We match the product to your skin rather than your schedule, and we will tell you when a booster is not the right answer.
His training includes the International Fellowship in Advanced Aesthetic Science, a facial anatomy and cadaver course with Dr Ali Pirayesh at the University of Amsterdam, and IBSA training. The clinic is at 222 Essex Road, Islington, London N1 3AP, two minutes from Essex Road station and a short ride from Angel, Highbury, Canonbury, Hackney and Stoke Newington. Many patients cycle or use a Lime or Forest e-bike. Buses 38, 56, 73, 341 and 476 stop on Essex Road, and we see patients Monday to Friday, 8am to 7pm, by appointment. Since 2009 the clinic has been rated 4.7 stars from more than 300 Google reviews.
