Invisalign is usually worth the cost for adults wanting tooth alignment without visible braces, particularly for mild-to-moderate crowding or spacing. At our Islington clinic, treatment costs £2,200–£4,900. It is not the cheapest option — fixed braces cost less — but the discreet appearance, removable convenience, and predictable outcome make it the preferred choice for most adults.
The question behind the question
"Worth it" isn't yes or no — it depends what you're comparing it against. A patient minimising cost and a patient avoiding visible metal are asking different questions.
The three comparisons that decide value
Versus fixed braces. Invisalign Express £2,200; Moderate £3,400; Unlimited £4,500–£4,900. Fixed and ceramic braces are quoted in writing after assessment. Where Invisalign costs more, the premium buys discretion and removability — real, not hidden.
Versus doing nothing. Untreated crowding worsens gradually — harder cleaning, higher decay risk, uneven tooth wear. Decades of additional fillings and repairs routinely exceed the one-time alignment cost.
Versus going abroad. Headline prices look lower until you count travel for six to twelve reviews, and access if refinements or complications arise.
When Invisalign is genuinely worth it
Mild-to-moderate adult crowding or spacing; adults with professional or social visibility needs; patients who'll wear it twenty-two hours a day; those prioritising hygiene during treatment; patients who want to preview the destination via ClinCheck.

When it's not worth it
Severe complex skeletal cases; very tight budgets minimising pure cost; patients who won't maintain wear time; active periodontal disease (must be controlled first); missing teeth needing restorative work first; very minor irregularities where composite bonding (£175–£350 per tooth) may be faster and cheaper.
What an Invisalign plan actually buys
A full Invisalign plan covers a free consultation, iTero scan, ClinCheck plan, every aligner (typically 30-50 sets), attachments, interproximal reduction, six to twelve reviews and refinement aligners; retainers are quoted in writing with the treatment plan. About 30-40% of cases need a refinement round: one refinement is included on Express and Moderate, and on Unlimited refinements are made as the case requires. Our Invisalign cost guide sets out each plan in full.
The honest realities of treatment
Treatment can run longer than estimated; attachments occasionally debond (quick re-bond); replacement aligners, if one is lost, are quoted in writing; refinements are common, not failure; retention is for life via nightly retainers or teeth drift back.

Where the Unlimited plan earns its place
Multi-year aligner cover (£4,500–£4,900; full terms and conditions apply) — makes sense for relapse history or complex bites, not for a simple case where Express (£2,200) does the job. 0% APR finance over 12 months via Tabeo, subject to status.
Frequently asked questions
Is Invisalign worth it for mild crowding? For most patients, yes — Express handles it in four to six months.
Is Invisalign worth it compared to braces? For most adults, yes — the premium buys discretion and removability.
Will Invisalign work for severe crowding? Most cases can be treated with Moderate or Unlimited; a small number need fixed braces or surgery.
Can Invisalign go wrong? Common issues are slow tracking, attachment debonding, and compliance gaps — serious complications are rare.
Is the Unlimited plan really worth £4,500–£4,900? For complex cases, yes; for simple cases, Express or Moderate serves better.
