Onda and Morpheus8 are both energy-based, both marketed for "body contouring", and both use heat. That is where the similarity ends. They work on different tissue layers and treat different problems, so the useful question is not which is better, but which matches your concern.
Onda removes fat and leaves the skin largely untouched; Morpheus8 remodels skin and has a limited effect on fat. Someone with a stubborn lower-abdominal bulge and good skin is an Onda conversation. Someone with crepey skin along the jaw, or acne scarring, is a skin conversation. Many people have a little of both, which is why we assess before recommending anything. If fat reduction is your concern, ONDA vs CoolSculpting compares the two main options.
We offer Onda Coolwaves. We do not offer Morpheus8; for the concerns it is used for, we use laser skin tightening, laser resurfacing, microneedling and Profhilo. The table compares Onda and Morpheus8 factor by factor, followed by who each suits, our recommendation and common questions. Our Morpheus8 alternative page covers the skin-side options in more depth. If Profhilo interests you, Profhilo vs dermal fillers sets out how it differs.
Onda and Morpheus8 answer different questions. Onda uses microwave energy to reduce stubborn pockets of body fat. Morpheus8 is radiofrequency microneedling, used mainly to tighten skin and improve texture and scarring. If your concern is fat, Onda is the relevant option; if it is loose or textured skin, it is not. We offer Onda in Islington; we do not offer Morpheus8, and use laser tightening, microneedling and Profhilo for those skin concerns.
| Onda | Morpheus8 | |
|---|---|---|
| How it works | Microwave energy absorbed mainly by fat, with the skin surface cooled throughout | Fine needles deliver radiofrequency heat into the skin to prompt collagen remodelling |
| Main concern treated | Defined pockets of body fat; a modest effect on the texture of cellulite | Skin laxity, uneven texture, enlarged pores and acne scarring |
| Typical areas | Abdomen, flanks, inner thighs, upper arms | Face, neck and body |
| Not suitable for | Weight loss; loose skin as the main concern; pregnancy; metal implants or implanted devices in the area | Active skin infection or inflamed acne; pregnancy; some implanted devices; a tendency to keloid scarring |
| Sessions | Usually a course of four, a few weeks apart | Commonly one to three, around a month apart |
| Downtime | Little or none; temporary redness or tenderness | Usually a few days of redness, swelling and fine pinpoint marks |
| Results onset | Gradual, building over the weeks across the course | Gradual, as collagen remodels over around three months |
| How long results last | Cleared fat cells do not return; remaining cells can enlarge with weight gain | Collagen change is gradual and ageing continues; maintenance is often suggested |
| Risks | Temporary redness, swelling and tenderness; uncommon risks such as burns are discussed at consultation | Temporary redness, swelling and marks; uncommon pigment change, infection or scarring |
| Cost at DWL | £300 per session; course of four £1,020, including an online personal training session | Not offered at DWL |
| Offered at DWL? | Yes, assessed and planned by Dr Vishal Patel | No; for skin concerns we offer laser lift and tighten (from £195), laser skin tightening (from £225), microneedling (from £160) and Profhilo (£350) |
Onda is the relevant option if your concern is a defined pocket of fat rather than the skin over it. Typically that means someone at or near a stable weight, with an area on the abdomen, flanks, inner thighs or upper arms that has not shifted with sensible eating and regular exercise.
Onda is not a weight-loss treatment, and it is not the right tool for loose or crepey skin on its own. If, at assessment, laxity is the larger part of the picture, we will tell you, and the plan will shift towards skin tightening rather than adding more fat-reduction sessions. Results vary from person to person.
Morpheus8 is designed for skin rather than fat. It may suit you if your main concern is skin quality: mild laxity along the jaw or neck, uneven texture, enlarged pores or acne scarring. It is widely used by reputable clinics, and some people prefer a treatment that combines microneedling and heat in one session.
We do not offer Morpheus8, so we cannot quote for it. For the same family of concerns, we use laser skin tightening (from £225), laser lift and tighten (from £195), microneedling (from £160) and Profhilo (£350, or £625 for two sessions), often in combination. If you would like to explore those first, our non-surgical face lift page explains how we plan them. If radiofrequency microneedling is clearly your preference, we will say so honestly.
In my practice, the first job is to establish what the concern actually is. Patients often arrive asking about Onda or Morpheus8 by name, when the real question is whether they are bothered by fat, by loose skin, or by both. Those lead to different treatments, and choosing the wrong category is the most common reason people are disappointed.
Where the concern is stubborn fat on a stable frame, Onda is the device we chose, because it gives a gradual, natural-looking reduction with little downtime. Where it is laxity or texture, we build a skin plan instead, usually combining laser tightening with Profhilo or microneedling, matched to the face rather than to a single machine. We did not add radiofrequency microneedling because the options we already use cover those concerns well for our patients; that is a judgement about our practice, not about clinics that use it. Results vary, and we explain what is realistic before you commit.

View all FAQs →No. Onda uses microwave energy to reduce defined pockets of body fat. Morpheus8 uses radiofrequency microneedling to remodel collagen in the skin, for laxity, texture and scarring. They are compared because both use heat and both appear under "body contouring", but they treat different concerns and work on different tissue layers.
No. For skin laxity and texture we use laser lift and tighten (from £195), laser skin tightening (from £225), microneedling (from £160) and Profhilo (£350), often in combination. Morpheus8 is a legitimate, widely used treatment; we simply cover those concerns with the options we already use and know well.
It depends on the concern. If it is a stubborn pocket of fat and the skin over it is reasonably firm, Onda is the relevant conversation. If it is loose, crepey or textured skin, a skin-tightening plan is. Many people have a little of both, which we assess at a skin and aesthetic consultation (£65, redeemable against treatment).
Onda can give a mild tightening effect and may improve the dimpled texture of cellulite, but it is primarily a fat-reduction treatment. Where loose skin is the main concern, a dedicated skin-tightening treatment is usually more appropriate, and we will recommend that instead of more Onda sessions.
No. Onda reduces fat volume in a specific area; it does not meaningfully change your weight and is not a substitute for diet, movement or medical weight management. It works best when your weight is stable and the concern is a defined area that has not responded to those things.
Most people have a course of four sessions, a few weeks apart, though some areas need more. Onda is £300 per session, or £1,020 for a course of four, including an online personal training session. We confirm the plan and the full cost in writing after your consultation.
Onda usually has little or no downtime; temporary redness, warmth or tenderness settles quickly. Radiofrequency microneedling typically involves a few days of redness, swelling and fine pinpoint marks after each session. Our laser tightening options vary by setting, and we explain the expected recovery before you book.
