Why the clinician who holds the needle matters more than how close they are to you
Dental & Wellness London offers masseter treatment at 222 Essex Road, Islington, London N1 3AP, two minutes from Essex Road station. Treatment uses a prescription muscle-relaxing medicine, often searched for as “masseter Botox”, after a dental assessment by Dr Vishal Patel. Consultation £65, redeemable; treatment from £300.

If you are searching for “masseter Botox” near you, the clinician matters more than the postcode. Masseter treatment relaxes the strong jaw muscle used for chewing and clenching, so it should start with an assessment of your bite, your teeth and your jaw joint, not just the muscle.
Most near-me searches work like any other local search: find the closest place, compare the price, book the first free slot. That is a reasonable way to choose a coffee. It is a less reliable way to choose who treats one of the strongest muscles in the face. The masseter sits over vital facial structures, and relaxing it changes how the jaw works as well as how it looks. Distance tells you nothing about whether the person treating it understands either.
People usually come to us for one of three reasons: the shape of the lower face, discomfort, or damage to teeth. Common signs include:
None of these on its own means you need treatment. Together they are a good reason for an assessment by someone who can look at the muscle and the teeth at the same time.
Each of these is worth a moment. A price given over the phone, before anyone has felt the muscle, is a guess, because the dose depends on the size and strength of your masseter. An examination of the teeth matters because grinding leaves signs a trained eye can read. Being told when the muscle is not the problem protects you from paying for a result that cannot happen. And a review means someone checks that the result settled as planned.
Closeness is only worth something if it brings real advantages. For masseter treatment there are three.
Relief from clenching often comes within two weeks, and any slimming develops over four to eight weeks. A clinic within easy reach makes it simple to come back for review or to ask a question, rather than turning each visit into a half-day trip.
Effects usually last four to six months, so most people return a few times a year at first. Seeing the same prescriber each time means your dose and timing are adjusted to how your muscle responds, using a record of what was done before.
If you grind, it helps when the clinic treating your masseter can also make and fit a night guard, check your teeth for wear and look at your bite. At our clinic those are under one roof, so a single assessment can cover the muscle, the teeth and the joint, and your dental and aesthetic records sit together. If the plan changes, for example from treatment to a guard or the other way round, you do not need to start again somewhere else.
Dr Vishal Patel is a dentist with twenty years in practice, so clenching, grinding, tooth wear and jaw pain are part of his everyday work. He can see whether a square jaw comes from muscle, bone or fat, and whether a night guard would help too. Read more on our main masseter treatment page.
Dentists train in depth on the anatomy of the face and jaw: the bones, blood vessels, nerves and how the muscles of chewing function. Dr Patel adds ten years in facial aesthetics and an MSc in Aesthetic & Restorative Dentistry from the University of Manchester, training that is about proportion and balance across the whole face. In practice that means treating the masseter so that the lower face looks softer and feels more comfortable, without a hollow or over-relaxed look, and reading facial symmetry across both sides of the jaw rather than treating two isolated injection points.
It also means the muscle is seen in context. Masseter treatment can reduce the force of clenching, but it does not address why you clench. A custom Davies splint, £495, protects the teeth at night, and where stress plays a part we can talk about that too. If symptoms suggest a sleep problem, we will suggest you see your GP.
At the consultation Dr Patel asks about your symptoms, health and medicines, then examines the masseter at rest and while you clench. He checks your teeth for wear, how far and how smoothly your jaw opens, and whether the jaw joint is tender. You leave with an honest recommendation, which may be masseter treatment, a night guard, both, or neither.
If you go ahead, treatment takes about 15 minutes, using a few fine injections into the body of the muscle on each side. There is no downtime, and most people go straight back to work or home. Chewing may feel slightly weaker for a few weeks. We then see you for review to check the result has settled as planned, and plan any repeat treatment around how your muscle responds rather than a fixed calendar.
We decline treatment when it will not help. The most common reason is that the width of the jaw comes from bone rather than muscle, which no medicine will change. Others include pregnancy or breastfeeding, some neuromuscular conditions, infection at the treatment area, and grinding that is better managed first with a night guard. Telling you this at consultation, before you have paid for treatment, is part of the standard of care you should expect from any clinic near you.
Masseter treatment at our Islington clinic is from £300, with the final cost depending on the dose your muscle needs. The first step is a skin and aesthetic consultation, £65, redeemable in full against treatment. We confirm the plan and the cost in writing after assessing you in person, so there are no surprises.
Prescribed and administered by Dr Vishal Patel, BDS, MSc Aesthetic & Restorative Dentistry, GDC 103127, the clinic’s sole aesthetic prescriber. Because this is a prescription-only medicine, it cannot be booked like a beauty treatment: a prescriber must see you first. Results vary, and we do not promise a particular change in jaw shape.
The clinic is at 222 Essex Road, Islington, London N1 3AP, two minutes from Essex Road station and a short ride from Angel, Highbury, Canonbury, Hackney and Stoke Newington. Many patients cycle or use a Lime or Forest e-bike. For other facial concerns, see our page on anti-wrinkle treatment in Islington.
Appointment only, Monday to Friday, 8am to 7pm. We are closed at weekends and do not take walk-ins, so each appointment is held for one person and one unhurried assessment. Early and evening slots suit many patients who work in the City or around Angel and want to fit a consultation or a 15 minute treatment around the working day.

Yes. People often search “masseter Botox”; “Botox” is one brand of the muscle-relaxing medicine used.
Look for a face-to-face assessment, a prescriber who examines your jaw and teeth, honest advice about alternatives, and a review afterwards.
There is a real case for it: dentists assess clenching, grinding, tooth wear and the jaw joint every day.
