Why a double chin is not always about weight
A double chin often runs in families and appears in slim people, which is why diet and exercise do not always clear it. It usually has one of three causes, and the cause decides the treatment:
- Fat under the chin: soft fullness that you can pinch. Treated with fat dissolving injections (Aqualyx, from £350) or ONDA (£300 per session).
- Loose skin: laxity under the jaw with age. Treated with laser skin tightening (from £195) or a thread lift.
- Chin and jaw shape: a set-back chin makes the neck look fuller. Treated with chin filler (from £350).
What is the most effective treatment?
The one that matches the cause, and often a combination. Fat reduction alone can leave loose skin; filler alone will not reduce fat. We assess which applies to you before recommending anything.
Can a double chin be removed permanently?
Treated fat cells do not return, so results can be long-lasting with a stable weight. Ageing continues, and skin may loosen over time. Can you get rid of a double chin without surgery?
