Dermal-filler chin enhancement from a dentist-injector with MSc Aesthetic & Restorative Dentistry — facial-proportion expertise applied to the chin that completes the smile harmony.
Chin filler uses hyaluronic acid filler to add projection or shape to the chin, balancing the profile and jawline without surgery. Results are immediate, last 12 to 18 months and are reversible. At Dental & Wellness London, Islington, chin filler is carried out by Dr Vishal Patel; dermal filler is from £350.

Chin filler uses a firm hyaluronic acid filler to add projection or shape to the chin, without surgery. A carefully measured amount is placed at specific points on the chin and along the transition into the jaw, and the change is visible at the end of the appointment. A well-balanced chin can make the nose look smaller, define the jawline and improve the profile from the side. If the nose is the main concern, our non-surgical nose job page explains that option. As a dentist, Dr Vishal Patel also considers how the chin relates to your lips, teeth and smile, because in practice those features are read together.
Chin filler is one of the more frequently requested injectable treatments in London, and the reasons people ask for it have widened. It was once mostly a conversation about volume loss with age. Today we see men and women in their twenties and thirties with a short or recessive chin, people rebalancing the lower face after lip filler, and patients of every age refining the line between chin and jaw as part of a wider facial plan. The injection itself is brief. The outcome is decided by the assessment that comes before it, and that is where most of our time at a chin filler consultation in Islington is spent.
These are the presentations we see most often at our N1 clinic, roughly in order of frequency.
Chin filler is not the answer to every concern under the jaw. It does not treat a double chin caused by fat; for that, see fat dissolving injections, which we assess separately. Significant asymmetry in the underlying bone, or a marked bite problem, is better addressed surgically or orthodontically, and we will say so. We do not treat during pregnancy or breastfeeding, where there is active infection or inflammation in the area, or where expectations go beyond what a modest, natural change can deliver. Sometimes the right recommendation is less than you asked for, or nothing at all.
Yes, when the amount is proportionate to your face. Our approach is proportionate treatment, planned around vital facial structures, with natural aesthetics and facial balance as the goal. We would rather place a little less and review than over-correct, because adding a small top-up at review is simple and over-treatment is not. The aim is a chin that looks as though it was always yours. Where the folds beside the mouth are also a concern, we cover that under nasolabial fold filler.
A dentist spends a career working in the lower face. That means detailed, everyday knowledge of the blood vessels, nerves and muscle function that any chin injection has to respect, including the nerve that exits the jaw beneath the lower premolars and the arteries that supply the lip and chin. Dr Vishal Patel has around 20 years in dentistry, including surgical work in this region, and 10 years in facial aesthetics.
The planning case matters as much as safety. The chin is the anchor of the lower face. Changing its projection changes how the lower lip sits at rest, how much of the lower teeth show when you speak and smile, the relationship between the chin and the angle of the jaw, and the line into the neck. Because he looks at lips, teeth, jaw and smile together, Dr Patel can tell you when the better first step is something else, such as aligning the teeth or adjusting the lips, before any chin treatment.
Your appointment starts with a facial assessment at rest and in movement, agreement on the planned amount, a written plan, consent and clinical photographs. A numbing cream is applied, and most fillers also contain a local anaesthetic, so the area becomes more comfortable as treatment goes on. Filler is placed with a fine needle or a blunt cannula, depending on the area, and built up gradually. Many patients describe the sensation as uncomfortable rather than painful. We gently settle the product, go through aftercare in writing and arrange a review. You return to your day straight afterwards.
The new shape is visible straight away, although swelling can exaggerate projection for the first day or two. Mild tenderness and occasional bruising settle over the first few days, and by one to two weeks most people see their settled result. The filler then integrates with the surrounding tissue and holds steadily, before gradually softening as the body breaks it down. Results usually last 12 to 18 months. The chin moves less than the lips, so chin filler tends to last longer than lip filler. Product choice, the amount placed and your own metabolism all play a part, and results vary from person to person.
Chin filler is priced as dermal filler, from £350. The exact cost depends on how much product your face needs, which we agree at consultation and confirm in writing before any treatment begins. A skin and aesthetic consultation is £65 and is redeemable in full against treatment. Dissolving with hyaluronidase, if ever needed, is £180. Where a plan combines the chin with the jawline or cheeks, we cost the whole plan together so you see the full picture first.
It is worth being honest about the longer view. Chin filler needs refreshing every 12 to 18 months to maintain the effect. Over several years that is a real commitment, and for some people a permanent surgical option becomes a sensible conversation.
Filler is non-surgical and reversible, ideal for modest change. An implant gives a permanent, larger change with surgery. In more detail:
We do not place chin implants, and we refer to maxillofacial or plastic surgery colleagues where surgery is the better route.
A meaningful share of our chin filler patients are men. Male chins tend to be broader and squarer, so treatment usually emphasises forward projection and width rather than a tapered point, and often needs a little more product to make a visible difference. Most men ask for subtle work that reads as a stronger version of their own face. Many combine chin filler with jawline filler or masseter treatment to balance the whole lower face, and we discuss that only where it genuinely applies.
Common, temporary effects include swelling for a few days, bruising, tenderness and slight asymmetry while things settle. Less commonly, there may be a lump, persistent asymmetry needing a small adjustment, infection or a reaction to the product. The most serious risk, though rare, is vascular occlusion, where filler blocks a blood vessel. The chin carries a lower risk than some areas, but not zero. Anatomical knowledge is the main protection, alongside slow, careful technique and the use of a cannula where appropriate. We keep hyaluronidase on site and are prepared to manage complications immediately.
For the first 24 to 48 hours, avoid strenuous exercise, saunas and very hot showers, and do not press or massage the area unless we have asked you to. Avoid other facial treatments, including routine dental work, for two weeks. Sleeping with your head slightly raised for a night or two helps with swelling. Contact us straight away if you notice severe or increasing pain, whitening or mottling of the skin, or any change in your vision.

Chin projection is planned in profile against the nose and lips, because a balanced chin changes how both of them read.

Not if fat is the cause. Better projection can improve the profile, but fat dissolving injections treat the fat itself.
