The diastema decision framework
A gap between teeth can be addressed through composite bonding alone (small gaps 1-2mm, £175 per tooth for a simple case, £350 complex), Invisalign alone (larger gaps or multiple gaps), Invisalign plus bonding combined, or veneers for multiple gaps plus other cosmetic concerns.
When Invisalign is the right answer
Gaps larger than 2-3mm, multiple gaps, a gap accompanied by other alignment issues, or a patient prioritising tooth preservation over added material.

When bonding is the right answer
Small gaps (1-2mm), an immediate result, a stable position with no broader concerns, or cost-sensitive cases. Our composite bonding page explains the process.
Tier matching for gap cases
Single small gap: Express (£2,200) or bonding. Single large gap: Express or Moderate (£3,400). Multiple gaps: Moderate or Unlimited (£4,500–£4,900). See Invisalign pricing for the full plans.

Retention for gap cases
Gaps closed with Invisalign require ongoing retention — without it the gap can re-open. A bonded wire retainer specifically helps maintain diastema closure.
Many patients arrive expecting bonding and leave with an Invisalign recommendation when the case calls for it, and vice versa — we map the approach to your actual case.
